About Treia Medievale

Treia Medievale takes you back to the 13th century of the Marche village, when it was still called Montecchio. For two days, the historic centre of Treia, in the province of Macerata, transforms into a castrum animated by knights, ladies, falconers, ancient crafts, and taverns. The fourth edition, dedicated to the theme "Women, Knights, Crafts", combines a historical in-depth conference, a military encampment for families, and an evening theatrical tour through the illuminated alleys. Free admission.

A Dive into the Middle Ages of Montecchio

Treia Medievale is the historical re-enactment that every year brings the historic centre of Treia, in the province of Macerata in the Marche region, back to the time when the village was still called Montecchio. For two days, knights, ladies, falconers, jugglers, and artisans bring the 13th century back to life within the walls, squares, and alleys of the town, in a journey that blends history, entertainment, and the beauty of the Marche landscape.

The Fourth Edition: Women, Knights, Crafts

The 2026 edition, scheduled for June 5th and 6th, revolves around the theme "Women, Knights, Crafts". The common thread is the role of women in the transmission of medieval knowledge, told through a conference, a military life re-enactment, and a grand animated night tour. The event is conceived and curated by the Associazione ArTemisiaLab, chaired by Edi Castellani, in collaboration with Lube Academy and under the patronage of the Municipality of Treia, the Egisto Paladini Comprehensive Institute, the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Marche Region, and the Archaeological Groups of Italy.

What to See

  • The inaugural conference on culinary culture and female knowledge in the Middle Ages, followed by a themed aperitif-dinner in the town's venues.
  • The "Castrum Monticuli" military encampment, with combat, workshops, dances, and falconry demonstrations.
  • "Ali sul Feudo" (Wings over the Feud), the educational meeting dedicated to the free flight of birds of prey, also designed for children.
  • The evening theatrical tour through the illuminated alleys, starting from Porta Cassera.

Why it's Worth the Trip

Unlike the grand Renaissance festivals of the region, Treia Medievale focuses on the intimate atmosphere of the village and a careful philological reconstruction of daily life in the 13th century. It is an event suitable for families, with activities dedicated to children, and with free admission: the ideal opportunity to discover one of the most evocative historic centres in the Macerata hinterland, already famous for the Palio dei Comuni and the game of pallone col bracciale.

Treia Medievale — edition 2026
