The Trail delle 5 Querce

The Trail delle 5 Querce is the signature trail running event of Gravina in Puglia, a town in the Alta Murgia region of the province of Bari (Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia). Created to showcase the beauty of the Murgia territory, it has grown with every edition to become, according to the organizers, the most popular trail race in Southern Italy, attracting hundreds of athletes from across Puglia and neighboring regions every year.

A path between nature and archaeology

The route, approximately 24.5 km long with 730 meters of positive elevation gain, winds through the vibrant trails of the Alta Murgia, the Bosco Difesa Grande — one of the largest oak forests in Southern Italy — and along the karst cavities and technical walls of the Gravina canyon, the deep limestone gorge that gives the city its name. Running here means traversing a unique landscape: rocky ridges, streams like the Pentecchia and Canapro, and ancient necropolises, caves, and rock churches that tell the story of a millennial civilization.

Sport and heritage combined

The race is more than just a sporting challenge: it is a way to discover the Alta Murgia National Park and the rich archaeological heritage of Gravina, from the Botromagno hill (the ancient Petramagna) to the archaeological park that preserves over ten thousand years of history. It is no coincidence that Gravina is considered one of the cradles of trail running in Puglia.

Organizers

The event is organized by the sports association A.S.D. Gravina Festina Lente, with the patronage of the Municipality of Gravina in Puglia, the Puglia Region, CONI, and the Alta Murgia National Park Authority. In addition to the competitive race, the weekend includes a recreational fun run/walk open to everyone, allowing participants to enjoy the Murgia trails without the pressure of competition.
