Edition 2025 โ The Raganelle
Good Friday 2025 in the village
On April 18, 2025, Good Friday, Pozzaglia Sabina experienced the central day of the Paschal Triduum according to the liturgical calendar shared by all the municipalities in the province of Rieti, in Lazio. As is the custom, the bells of the parish church remained silent in memory of the death of Christ.
The tradition of the raganelleโthe wooden instruments that had replaced the sound of the bells during the Triduum since the mid-19th centuryโwas not, however, publicly re-enacted that year: local chronicles speak of a revival that took place "after many years of silence" with the 2026 edition, promoted by the Associazione Fedeli di Santa Agostina APS.
2025 therefore remains, for Pozzaglia, the last year before the return of one of the most characteristic rites of the Lucretili Mountains village, which is now once again part of the Easter calendar of the birthplace of Saint Agostina Pietrantoni.
