Civil theatre sparking social awareness in Rome's Municipio III
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Terzo Incluso is a civil theatre festival born in Rome's Municipio III, the northern quadrant of the city that includes neighborhoods such as Tufello, Vigne Nuove, Val Melaina, and Monte Sacro. The title is a play on words that flips the logical principle of the «excluded middle»: here, on the contrary, no one is left out. The project takes the theatrical stage out of the traditional city-center circuits and returns it to the neighborhood spaces, with the declared goal of awakening collective consciousness through stories that speak of rights, memory, and coexistence.
The lineup consists of ten performances, each dedicated to a theme identified as a priority in contemporary social discourse: intercultural dialogue, gender identity, war and its wounds, respect for women, and labor exploitation. This is not escapist theatre, but rather theatre that questions the spectator and calls them to action as a citizen. Alongside protest texts, there is space for narrative theatre and civil monologues—languages capable of transforming the audience into a small community that listens and reflects.
The heart of the event is the Teatro 7 Off on Via Monte Senario, a prose theatre directed by Michele La Ginestra, but the shows also venture into local spaces: the «Gigi Proietti» Tufello market social area and the Casali di Faonte in Vigne Nuove. This choice of spreading out into the urban fabric is an integral part of the project: civil theatre does not wait for the audience in the hall, but goes to meet them where they live.
Terzo Incluso is produced by Teatro 7 Off and was a winner of the Roma Creativa 365 public call, promoted by Roma Capitale — Department of Culture in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura. A recognition that places the festival within the broader plan for cultural decentralization of the Capital, aimed at bringing artistic offerings to the municipalities and suburbs, enhancing local creativity.
In the landscape of events in Lazio and the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Terzo Incluso represents a model of participatory theatre rooted in the territory, where art becomes a tool for inclusion and active citizenship.
The 2026 edition of Terzo Incluso is not currently confirmed. The festival, born in 2025 as a winning project of the Roma Creativa 365 public call, took place in the autumn between Teatro 7 Off and spaces in Municipio III. A potential new edition will likely follow the same formula of free-admission civil theatre. For official dates and program, please refer to the website www.teatro7off.it.
