About Scena ArenAniene

Scena ArenAniene is a comedy and contemporary theatre festival that brings the Teatro Aniene in Rome's Vigne Nuove district to life every autumn. Born as the winter counterpart to the ArenAniene project by the Tam Tam Cooperative, it presents comedy shows, monologues, new playwrights, and theatre workshops between October and November, with forays into singer-songwriter music and literary presentations. The programme blends big names in Italian comedy with emerging young companies, specifically designed for the audience of the capital's northern suburbs.

Scena ArenAniene: contemporary comedy at the Teatro Aniene

Scena ArenAniene is the theatre festival that lights up the stage of the Teatro Aniene in Rome's Vigne Nuove district every autumn. Dedicated to new languages of comedy and contemporary theatre, the event transforms a local neighbourhood space into a vibrant laboratory of laughter, reflection, and scenic experimentation for several weeks between October and November.

From summer arena to theatre season

The festival was born as the autumn offshoot of the broader ArenAniene project, conceived and curated by the Tam Tam Cooperative. While the heart of the activities beats outdoors in summer at the Parco del Ponte Nomentano and along the banks of the Aniene river, the baton passes to the Teatro Aniene hall during the colder season: here, the programming becomes more intimate and focused, without losing the popular and community-driven spirit that distinguishes the entire initiative.

A programme between big names and new authors

The programme alternates between well-known faces of Italian comedy and emerging companies, original monologues and social theatre performances, with forays into singer-songwriter music and events dedicated to book presentations. Alongside the evening shows, there are theatre workshops led by professionals, seminars, and community activities, confirming a vocation that goes far beyond simple entertainment.

  • Comedy and stand-up shows with established performers;
  • Monologues and contemporary theatre scripts by young authors;
  • Musical tributes and theatre-song performances;
  • Theatre workshops and literary presentations open to the public.

A cultural hub for Municipality III

Promoted by Roma Capitale โ€“ Department of Culture and produced in collaboration with Zรจtema Progetto Cultura, the festival is one of the winners of the Roma Creativa 365 public call, through which the Municipality of Rome supports cultural activities spread across the districts. For Municipality III, an area in the capital's northern suburbs, Scena ArenAniene represents an important hub of local culture, capable of bringing a public often far from the major central circuits closer to the theatre.

Rome and Lazio: culture beyond the historic centre

In a city like Rome, in the heart of Lazio, where cultural offerings are often concentrated in the monumental centre, initiatives like Scena ArenAniene tell the story of another capital: that of the neighbourhoods, cooperatives, and associations that enliven the social life of the territories. The Teatro Aniene, on Via delle Vigne Nuove, thus becomes a reference point for residents and enthusiasts, in a journey that combines laughter, civic commitment, and the discovery of new talents on the Italian scene.

Scena ArenAniene โ€” edition 2026
