2024/25 Season "Eros and Thanatos"

The 2024/25 season of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo focused on the theme "Eros and Thanatos," the eternal conflict between love and death in life and art. The program opened on November 24, 2024, with Le Grand Macabre by György Ligeti, conducted by Omer Meir Wellber.

Key titles included: Otello by Verdi in a new production directed by Mario Martone, Faust by Gounod conducted by Daniel Oren, La sonnambula by Bellini in an international co-production, and Mitridate Eupatore by Alessandro Scarlatti, marking the fourth centenary of the birth of the Palermo composer. The ballet company presented The Nutcracker set in Sicilian pastry shops, Giselle, and new contemporary choreography such as "Rossini Cards" and "Anna."
