Two evenings of singer-songwriter music and books in the amphitheatre of the Villa Comunale in Campolattaro
Suoni al Borgo Music Festival is the summer event in Campolattaro, a town of a few hundred inhabitants in the Province of Benevento, in the heart of the Sannio region in Campania. The idea that gave rise to the event in 2024 is stated by the organizers without beating around the bush: to repopulate the village through art and social interaction, restoring contemporary, high-quality cultural programming to inland areas. In just two editions, the festival has already become a recognizable fixture on the Sannio summer calendar.
The heart of the event is the Villa Comunale amphitheatre on Via Bebiana, a park of about ten thousand square metres with dozens of tree species, overlooking the Tammaro valley and the landscape of the Campolattaro dam. It is a setting that positively influences the listening experience: intimate tiers, the audience close to the stage, and the summer twilight descending over the Sannio hills. On festival evenings, the town centre also comes alive with stalls and refreshment areas managed by local businesses.
The artistic direction favours Italian songwriting and the independent scene, with a refined balance between long-standing names and emerging projects. The Campolattaro stage has hosted Paolo Benvegnรน, Cristina Donร with Saverio Lanza, Francesco Di Bella, Riserva Moac, and, in 2026, Marina Rei. Alongside the headliners, there is space for local bands and up-and-coming artists, in a programme that keeps a close eye on the Valle Telesina and the musical Sannio.
The most original feature of Suoni al Borgo is its dual nature: before the concert, at 7:30 PM, the Aperitivo con l'autore (Aperitif with the author) takes place, a meeting with a writer who presents their book while engaging with the public. Music and the written word thus alternate throughout the evening, and the festival becomes a small literary event as well as a musical one. Over the years, guests have included Ernesto Razzano, Mara Fortuna, Massimo Palma, and Piergiorgio Pardo.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Campolattaro together with the Pro Loco Campolattaro, with the collaboration of independent local entities such as Reset, Ossigeno, and CasaNaima; in the first editions, Eskimo and the La Villa kiosk also participated. It is a typically Sannio-style organizational structure, where the municipal administration and voluntary associations share the direction of the event.
Suoni al Borgo is part of the summer season in Campolattaro, which in 2025 saw the festival placed within the Estate Campolattarese programme. For those arriving from outside, it is a good excuse to discover a less-travelled area of Campania: from Benevento, you can reach Campolattaro in just over half an hour by car, crossing the Valle Telesina and the hills cultivated with vines and olive trees in the Sannio.
The festival returned to Campolattaro, in the Province of Benevento, on July 17 and 18, 2026, with a proven formula: the written word at sunset, live music in the evening. The Villa Comunale theatre hosted two days with completely free admission, promoted by the Municipality and the Pro Loco with Reset, Ossigeno, and CasaNaima.
The most anticipated moment was the concert by Marina Rei, with over thirty years of career in Italian songwriting, on Saturday the 18th at 9:30 PM. Mayor Simone Paglia championed the choice: having an artist of that calibre is a source of pride for the community and proves that even inland areas can offer high-level contemporary artistic proposals.
The opening evening combined a live set by Aura e Marilyn, a band from the Valle Telesina that appeared on X Factor, and one by Satantango, an emerging project that was a finalist at the Premio Tenco in the best debut album category. The village centre came alive from the late afternoon with stalls, performances, and refreshment areas.
All events took place in the theatre-amphitheatre of the Villa Comunale on Via Bebiana, in Campolattaro. From the late afternoon, the village hosted stalls and refreshment points.
By car: from Benevento, take the SS87 towards Morcone and follow signs for Campolattaro (approx. 30 km, 35-40 minutes). From Naples, take the A16 to Benevento, then the SS87 (approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes). Useful exits also from the SS212 Fortorina for those arriving from Molise.
The reference station is Benevento Centrale, connected to Naples, Caserta, and Rome; from there, connections to Campolattaro are possible via suburban bus lines, with limited service on holidays: the car remains the most convenient solution.
Events take place in the Villa Comunale amphitheatre on Via Bebiana. Meetings with authors usually start at 7:30 PM, and main concerts around 9:30 PM.
For the 2026 edition, admission to all events and concerts is free. In the first edition in 2024, a ticket was required (presale 15 euros, 20 euros at the door): it is always advisable to check the conditions for the current year with the organizers.
This is an open-air amphitheatre: a light sweater is useful for the evening, even in mid-summer, and comfortable shoes for the park. Seating is limited, so arrive a little early. For information: Pro Loco Campolattaro, via Pescolombardo 1, [email protected].
Accommodation in the village is limited: you can find farmhouses and B&Bs in nearby towns (Morcone, Pontelandolfo, Fragneto Monforte) and a wider choice in Benevento, about half an hour away by car.
