In 2025, the Giro d'Italia did not have a stage start in Gemona del Friuli: the start of the 20th stage from Gemona is an absolute novelty for 2026, linked to the 50th anniversary of the 1976 earthquake.
The Giro d'Italia stage start from Gemona del Friuli is an unprecedented event, scheduled for 2026 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1976 earthquake. In 2025, the town did not host any stage starts of the Corsa Rosa: the event on May 30, 2026, with the Gemona-Piancavallo leg, therefore represents Gemona's first time as a Giro starting city, chosen for its strong symbolic value linked to the memory of the earthquake and the rebirth of Friuli.
