The Nicola Vaccaj Theatre in Tolentino, in the province of Macerata, is the beating heart of the city's cultural life and a significant part of the Marche hinterland. Every year, from October to April, the theatre offers a theatre season that intertwines drama, musicals, comedy, classical dance, and symphonic music, promoted by the Municipality of Tolentino together with AMAT - Associazione Marchigiana Attività Teatrali.

The strength of the Vaccaj season lies in the variety of its programme, capable of bringing leading Italian theatre performers to a provincial town. Alongside the subscription shows - traditionally five major drama and musical productions - the theatre offers several non-subscription events dedicated to classical dance, comedy, and music. It's a formula designed to satisfy diverse audiences: from classical theatre enthusiasts to families, from ballet lovers to those seeking comedy and live music.
Forty years of emotions and an opening to dance
The hall named after the Tolentino composer Nicola Vaccaj is one of the most evocative theatre spaces in the Marche. Reopened to the public in 1985 after extensive restoration, the Vaccaj boasts refined acoustics and an atmosphere of yesteryear. In recent years, the programming has progressively expanded, decisively embracing dance with major classical repertoire titles, and consolidating the collaboration with the FORM - Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana for the musical segment.

The 2025/2026 Season: 'Behind the Mask'
The 2025/2026 season of the Teatro Vaccaj in Tolentino, titled 'Behind the Mask. Emotions and irony in a play between being and appearing', marked an important anniversary: the fortieth anniversary of the theatre's reopening, which took place in 1985. The common thread – the mask as identity, between fiction and reality – spanned different eras and genres, from Renaissance Italy to late 19th-century Naples, from 1970s America to contemporary times.
A programme among the richest in the Marche, which combined major subscription drama productions with a decisive opening towards classical dance and concerts by the FORM - Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana.
