An evening of celebration in the village in the shadow of the Abbey
Chiaravalle is a small agricultural village on the southern edge of Milan, in Municipality 5, immersed in the South Agricultural Park between the Vigentino and Rogoredo districts. It developed around the famous Abbey of Chiaravalle, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1135 by Bernard of Clairvaux, and was annexed to the Municipality of Milan in 1923. Even today, it retains the secluded atmosphere of an ancient rural village, with its abbey, historic mill, and surrounding water meadows.
The Spring Festival in Chiaravalle is an evening of celebration held in Piazzale San Bernardo, in the heart of the village. It is a cultural, musical, and community event, designed to enhance the identity of this unique place and to offer residents and visitors an opportunity to meet at the beginning of the warmer season. The evening, with music and moments of socialisation, accompanies the village into summer.
Participating in the festival is also an opportunity to discover a corner of Milan that many citizens do not know. The Abbey of Chiaravalle, a masterpiece of Lombard Cistercian architecture, dominates the village with its famous tower known as the Ciribiciaccola. Around it stretch the cultivated fields of the South Agricultural Park, the water meadows, and the mill: a landscape that tells the story of the agricultural vocation of the Milanese plain.
Promoted under the patronage of Municipality 5, the Spring Festival is part of a broader path of rediscovery and protection of the village of Chiaravalle and its extraordinary historical and environmental heritage. It is an invitation to slow down and experience, even just for an evening, the agricultural and monastic Milan just a few kilometres from the centre.
The 2026 edition of the Spring Festival in Chiaravalle takes place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from approximately 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, in Piazzale San Bernardo, in the heart of the village of Chiaravalle.
