Music, culture, and sustainability in the emerging Rome
The SprEco Festival is one of the most original proposals on the independent cultural scene in Rome, Lazio. Conceived and produced by the cultural association Indiepanchine, the festival stems from a precise conviction: the fight against the environmental crisis can also be waged through music and collective participation. Each edition is a blend of concerts, talks, stand-up comedy, and best practices, with the stated goal of offsetting the CO₂ emissions generated by the event itself and raising awareness among a young audience, especially those under 35.
SprEco is not a festival that just talks about sustainability: it is a festival that puts it into practice. Each day revolves around a different environmental theme, introduced by a talk with experts and associations, and continues with live comedy and concerts by emerging artists. Best practices are developed around the stage: the public can get ticket discounts by donating used clothing to Humana's EcoBoxes, using the Too Good To Go app to fight food waste, or sharing the festival's content. A mechanism that turns every spectator into an active part of the event's ecological footprint.
The first edition took place in June 2024 at the Monk Club, a historic cultural space in the eastern suburbs of Rome. The second edition, in November 2025, brought the festival back to the Monk in Portonaccio (Municipality IV) with three themed evenings. The third edition, in June 2026, saw the festival move to the Città dell'altra Economia in Testaccio, as part of the Testaccio Estate program, with the SprEco Off format and the collaboration of UniTelma Sapienza and Radio Kaos Italy.
According to artistic director Daniele Fasanella, the first edition offset approximately 140 kg of CO₂ and saved over 138,000 liters of water, while the second reached 153 kg of CO₂ and over 113,000 liters of water saved, with a clear reduction in single-use plastic. A model that the organizers aim to make exportable even outside of Rome.
The SprEco Festival enjoys the support of the Ministry of Culture (General Directorate for Performing Arts), Roma Capitale - Department of Culture, and Zètema Progetto Cultura, as well as partners Humana People to People Italia, Too Good To Go, and Assomusica. Recognition that confirms the festival as a successful experiment in young and responsible culture in the heart of the Capital.
With the third edition, the SprEco Festival changes scenery and arrives at the Città dell'altra Economia in Testaccio, the heart of sustainable Rome, as part of the summer program of Testaccio Estate. The SprEco Off format confirms the festival's vocation: to give space to emerging talents and make sustainability a real practice shared by the public and artists, not just a superficial slogan. Two days of free outdoor concerts, under the artistic direction of Daniele Fasanella and with the collaboration of the telematic university UniTelma Sapienza and Radio Kaos Italy.
The performances were accompanied by the usual environmental best practices and moments of awareness regarding CO₂ and water savings.
The festival is itinerant across the neighborhoods of Rome: the 2024 and 2025 editions were held at the Monk Club, at Via Giuseppe Mirri 35 (Portonaccio/Casalbertone area, Municipality IV); the 2026 edition took place at the Città dell'altra Economia, in Testaccio.
The Monk Club is accessible from Tiburtina station (Metro B, regional trains) and various bus lines. The Città dell'altra Economia is located in Testaccio, near Ostiense station and the Piramide Metro B stop.
For the editions at the Monk, the daily ticket was €15 plus booking fees, with discounts up to free entry by adhering to environmental best practices (clothing donation, use of the anti-waste app, content sharing). Check the official Indiepanchine channels for updated information.
