About Prose Season Maiolati

The Prose Season of the Spontini Theater in Maiolati Spontini, in the province of Ancona, brings the great names of Italian theater to the small theatrical jewel of the Vallesina. Organized by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation together with the Municipality of Maiolati Spontini and AMAT, the review offers a handful of shows chosen from prose, comedy, and civil theater every winter, in a program shared with the Pergolesi Theater of Jesi. An opportunity to experience live theater in the village that was the birthplace of composer Gaspare Spontini.

Theater in the village of Gaspare Spontini

The Spontini Theater Prose Season is the winter event with great theater in Maiolati Spontini, a small municipality in the Vallesina in the province of Ancona, in the heart of the Marche region. The theater is named after Gaspare Spontini (1774-1851), the famous opera composer born in Maiolati, who brought international prestige to this hilltop village amidst the Verdicchio vineyards.

A season shared with Jesi

The review is organized by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation together with the Municipality of Maiolati Spontini and AMAT (Marchigiana Association of Theatrical Activities). The program is part of a single large season that also includes the Pergolesi Theater of Jesi: a total of about a dozen events distributed from November to April, a selection of which is staged on the Macerata stage of the Spontini Theater.

What to expect

The program alternates author's prose, comedy, and civil theater, featuring well-known faces from the Italian scene. In recent years, audiences have applauded performers such as Nancy Brilli, Daniele Pecci, Marina Massironi, and comedian Dado, striking a balance between great classics reinterpreted with irony and lighter, more brilliant shows.

  • Evening performances, usually at 9 PM
  • Subscription season with some non-subscription titles
  • An intimate venue that ensures a close relationship between actors and spectators
  • Discounts for under 26s, over 65s, schools, and groups

The season is also a way to discover the Vallesina, a land of castles, abbeys, and the renowned Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi wine, just a few kilometers from Jesi and the Ancona hinterland.
