The theater review of the Gaspare Spontini Theater in Maiolati Spontini
The Spontini Theater Prose Season is the winter event with great theater in Maiolati Spontini, a small municipality in the Vallesina in the province of Ancona, in the heart of the Marche region. The theater is named after Gaspare Spontini (1774-1851), the famous opera composer born in Maiolati, who brought international prestige to this hilltop village amidst the Verdicchio vineyards.
The review is organized by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation together with the Municipality of Maiolati Spontini and AMAT (Marchigiana Association of Theatrical Activities). The program is part of a single large season that also includes the Pergolesi Theater of Jesi: a total of about a dozen events distributed from November to April, a selection of which is staged on the Macerata stage of the Spontini Theater.
The program alternates author's prose, comedy, and civil theater, featuring well-known faces from the Italian scene. In recent years, audiences have applauded performers such as Nancy Brilli, Daniele Pecci, Marina Massironi, and comedian Dado, striking a balance between great classics reinterpreted with irony and lighter, more brilliant shows.
Going to the theater in Maiolati Spontini means combining curiosity for an authentic Marche village with the pleasure of a national-level performance. The season is also a way to discover the Vallesina, a land of castles, abbeys, and the renowned Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi wine, just a few kilometers from Jesi and the Ancona hinterland.
The 2025-2026 edition confirms the formula of an intimate yet high-profile season, with four events on the stage of the Spontini Theater in Maiolati Spontini between February and April 2026. The program ranges from brilliant comedy to theater-song, to author's comedy, within the season shared with the Pergolesi Theater of Jesi, presented under the auspices of the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation and AMAT.
Four well-known faces of Italian theater: Nancy Brilli with the comedy Il padrone, Daniele Pecci as Oscar Wilde, the comedy of Dado, and Marina Massironi in an ironic reinterpretation of Othello.
