Trieste's international short film festival
The ShorTS International Film Festival, organised by the Maremetraggio Association, is one of Italy's main events dedicated to short films and short forms of cinema. Every summer, it transforms Trieste into an international showcase for emerging talent, with a selection of around 120 works from all over the world.
The festival is divided into seven competitions: the historic Maremetraggio section (best short film), ShorTS Express for micro-shorts (1-5 minutes), Italia in ShorTS for national productions, Eco-ShorTS on environmental themes, Shorter Kids'n'Teens for young audiences (6-15 years), ShorTS Immersive dedicated to virtual reality, and ShorTS Horror Picture Show for the horror genre. A range that reflects the vitality and experimentation of contemporary cinema.
Alongside jury and audience awards, the festival pays tribute to great performers and presents accolades such as the "Interprete del Presente" (Performer of the Present) and the "Prospettiva" (Perspective) award for young talents. Screenings and meetings take place between the Cinema Ariston and the Teatro Miela, in the heart of Trieste.
With its focus on new generations of authors and emerging languagesโfrom immersive to eco-cinemaโShorTS confirms Trieste as a cultural crossroads open to Europe and the world, a border city of exchange also on the big screen.
