Tastings, wineries, and Pontine flavors at the Corte dei Caetani
The Sermoneta Expo Wine and Food is the food and wine festival that enlivens the historic center of Sermoneta—a stunning medieval village in the province of Latina dominated by the Caetani Castle—every late summer. Established in 2024 with the subtitle "At the Court of the Caetani," the event is organized by the Ventitré 4.0 Event Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Sermoneta and the collaboration of the Pro Loco. In just a few editions, it has become one of the most anticipated dates on the village's "Summer Events" calendar.
The heart of the festival is a true tasting trail spread across the most beautiful spots in the village: the Loggia dei Mercanti, the Palazzo Comunale courtyard, Piazza Belvedere, the spaces around the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, and the garden of the former San Nicola hostel. Along the route, visitors encounter dozens of tasting points—over forty in recent editions—featuring wineries from the Pontine territory and other parts of Italy, craft breweries, extra virgin olive oils, cured meats, cheeses, and traditional local dishes. Participating producers have included renowned names from the Agro Pontino such as Casale del Giglio, Villa Gianna, Monte Corvino, and Tenute Filippi.
The formula follows the well-tested model of major wine events: with a single ticket, visitors receive a wine glass with a lanyard and a map of the tasting route, allowing them to move freely between stations to sample wines and specialties. Tastings are accompanied by live music, with jazz and lounge sounds setting the mood for a stroll through the illuminated alleys.
The official opening is traditionally entrusted to the Sbandieratori del Ducato Caetani (flag-wavers), whose banners transport the village back to the era of the powerful family that made it their court. Over the two evenings, squares and narrow streets fill with live performances, entertainment, and sunset guided tours, creating an atmosphere that blends conviviality and history.
Sermoneta is one of the best-preserved villages in the Lazio Region: its defensive walls, stone alleys, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and the imposing Caetani Castle make it a beloved destination just a stone's throw from the Garden of Ninfa. The Expo Wine and Food is the perfect opportunity to discover it in the golden light of early September, when the weather is still summery and the village can be savored—literally—glass in hand. A free shuttle service connects the Monticchio market area to the historic center for the duration of the event.
The Sermoneta Expo Wine and Food 2026 returns on the weekend of September 5 and 6, confirmed in the rich "Summer Events" calendar presented by the municipal administration, which brings about fifty appointments including music, theater, and folklore to Sermoneta between July and September. Following the success of the first two editions, the event will offer the tasting trail through the village's iconic spots—from the Loggia dei Mercanti to Piazza Belvedere—featuring local wineries, breweries, and food producers, along with live music and performances. The detailed program and information on tasting tickets will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
Sermoneta can be reached by car via the SS148 Pontina or the Via Appia (exits for Latina Scalo/Sermoneta); parking is recommended in the Monticchio market area, from which a free shuttle to the historic center runs until late at night. By train: Latina Scalo station (Rome-Naples line via Formia), about a 10-minute drive from the village.
Access to the village is free; for tastings, you can purchase a ticket at the entrance that includes a glass, lanyard, and route map, subject to availability.
Wear comfortable shoes: the village features stone streets and inclines. During the same weeks, the "Summer Events" calendar of the Municipality of Sermoneta offers many other appointments.
