The summer art and culture event of the Castronuovo Museum Hub
In Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea, a village in the province of Potenza within the Pollino National Park, the Serata della Cultura is the most anticipated summer event: a mid-August evening in Piazza Civiltà Contadina that has celebrated the art, culture, and memory of the town for over forty years.
Organized by the Polo Museale (Museum Hub) of Castronuovo — which includes the MIG, International Museum of Graphics, and the village's other art collections — the Serata della Cultura is the occasion to unveil new exhibitions and acquisitions, pay tribute to Italian cultural figures, and present awards such as the Environmental Prize. An event that underscores the extraordinary cultural commitment of a small village that has become a widespread centre of art.
The piazza comes alive with the public, scholars, artists, and residents, in an atmosphere that blends solemnity with community celebration. Through speeches, presentations, and exhibition openings, the Serata della Cultura is both an institutional moment and a major popular gathering of the Castronuovo summer.
The Serata della Cultura encapsulates the spirit of Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea: a village that has chosen culture as the driving force of its identity, safeguarding unique collections of graphics and contemporary art within Southern Italy, in the heart of the Lucanian Pollino.
The 2026 edition, the XLIV Serata della Cultura, is scheduled for Sunday, August 16th, in Piazza Civiltà Contadina in Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea. The evening features a tribute to Francesco Sisinni and culture, the awarding of the Environmental Prize 2026, and the inauguration of exhibitions from the Museum Hub's collections, including "Tribute to Gianluigi Giovanola: paintings, drawings, and prints 1958-2005" and a portfolio of graphic works by Mauro Staccioli.
The tribute to Francesco Sisinni, the major exhibition dedicated to Gianluigi Giovanola, and the Environmental Prize are the central moments of the XLIV edition.
