Teana celebrates its patron saint San Biagio in the heart of the Pollino summer
Teana, a village perched in the Pollino National Park in the Province of Potenza, venerates San Biagio as its patron saint. Devotion to the saint is expressed both on the liturgical feast day of February 3rd and, especially, during the summer patronal festival, when the village comes alive to welcome those who return for the occasion.
In the heart of summer, in August, Teana celebrates its patron saint with the usual blend of the sacred and the secular typical of Lucanian festivals: solemn mass, a procession of the statue of San Biagio through the village streets, accompanied by the town band, illuminations, and civil celebrations with music and evening entertainment.
As in many small towns in the Lucanian hinterland, the patronal festival is the time when Teana reunites around its identity: emigrants return to the village, families get together, and traditions are passed down. The setting of the Pollino, with its mountain landscapes, makes the event even more evocative.
Among the smallest villages in Basilicata, Teana preserves a heritage of rites and traditions—from the historical carnival of the Urs to religious festivals—that make it an authentic destination for those wishing to discover the most genuine Lucania, far from the mass tourism circuits.
For 2026, the patronal festival of San Biagio in Teana is expected in the usual summer period, tentatively on August 8th-9th, following the village tradition.
The festival includes the religious dimension, with a solemn mass and procession of the patron saint, and the civil dimension, with a band, illuminations, and evening entertainment. The precise dates and detailed program will be announced by the Municipality of Teana and the parish in the weeks preceding the event.
