Over a month of Christmas magic in the centre of Cantù
With the arrival of winter, Cantù, a city in the Brianza region in the province of Como, dresses up in lights and becomes the stage for Scintille di Natale, the major Christmas festival that accompanies the city from late November until Epiphany. Promoted by the Municipality with the support of the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce and BCC Cantù, it is a widespread event that fills the squares and streets of the centre with installations, events, and festive atmospheres.
The scenic heart of the festival is Piazza Garibaldi, dominated by a nine-meter-high fir tree and a luminous waterfall cascading from the bell tower. The ice skating rink of over 350 square meters is one of the most beloved attractions, along with a 1960s double-decker bus transformed into a bistro and the Christmas train that travels through the city streets.
What makes Scintille di Natale special is the richness of its calendar: over seventy events spread over more than a month. Concerts, shows, popular traditions like the Magnan di Natale, the CantaCantù singing competition at the Teatro San Teodoro, the living nativity scene, and the charity Motobefana alternate in a program capable of engaging all ages. Solidarity is a constant component, with numerous initiatives supporting local organisations.
Scintille di Natale is a celebration designed primarily for families and children, but it knows how to speak to everyone: those seeking the authentic spirit of the holidays, those who want to skate under the lights, those who wish to discover Brianza in its most evocative period. For over a month, Cantù becomes a city-sized Christmas destination, just a few kilometres from Como and Milan.
The Scintille di Natale festival will return to Cantù for the 2026-2027 Christmas season, reprising the formula that transforms the city centre into a Christmas village for over a month each year, from late November to Epiphany.
The established attractions — ice skating rink, luminous fir tree in Piazza Garibaldi, light waterfall from the bell tower, Christmas train, and living nativity scene — will frame a calendar of dozens of events including concerts, shows, and solidarity initiatives. The precise dates and full program will be published by the Municipality of Cantù at the start of the event.
The detailed program for the 2026-2027 edition will be announced by the Municipality of Cantù at the start of the festival. The usual structure includes:
The ice skating rink and the luminous fir tree in Piazza Garibaldi, the living nativity scene, and the rich calendar of events that accompanies the city throughout the holidays.
The events take place in the centre of Cantù (CO), with Piazza Garibaldi as the focal point. The city is reachable by train (Cantù-Cermenate station, Milan-Como line) and by car from the A9 and A36 motorways.
The festival and most of the events are free admission. The ice skating rink and some activities have a fee. The complete calendar is published by the Municipality of Cantù at the start of the event.
