Santa Maria a Mare Festival

The 2025 edition

In 2025, Santa Maria di Castellabate prepared for weeks for the patron saint's festivities, with the town decorated in lights and colors and the hard work of the festival committee. The day of August 15th followed the usual structure: the statue left the Sanctuary of Santa Maria a Mare, followed by Holy Mass in Piazza Lucia and a procession through the streets of the seaside district, with participation from all over the Cilento region.

The afternoon of August 14th was dedicated to the 124th edition of the Palio della Stuzza, the ancient maritime competition on the slippery pole suspended over the sea. A few days later, in September 2025, the Palio was recognized as an intangible heritage asset of the Campania Region.

The closing, as per tradition, came with the fireworks display at the stroke of midnight between August 15th and 16th, over the water in front of the town.
