Edition 2025 — Sant'Angelo in August
2025 Edition: 400 years since the liberation from the plague
The 2025 edition celebrated the 400th anniversary of Licata's liberation from the 1625 plague, restoring the tradition of the octave of Sant'Angelo. On Saturday, August 16th, the evening mass was presided over by Archbishop Msgr. Filippo Iannone of the Carmelite Order; at 8:00 PM, the urn was transferred to the high altar of the sanctuary, and at 8:30 PM, the peregrinatio took place through the sites affected by the epidemic.
On Sunday, August 17th, the main day, the solemn procession of the urn, carried on the shoulders of barefoot sailors, was held in the evening through the city streets. The octave concluded on Saturday, August 23rd with an open-air mass and the Te Deum in Piazza Sant'Angelo. The celebrations drew the faithful, returning emigrants, and visitors, confirming the strong bond between Licata, its patron saint, and the maritime culture of the Agrigento region.
