Edition 2025 — Sant'Agata in Castelvecchio
2025 Edition
The 2025 Sant'Agata Festival in Castelvecchio Subequo (province of L'Aquila) took place on February 4th and 5th, confirming a devotional rite deeply rooted in the Abruzzo hinterland community.
On the afternoon of February 4th, devotees prepared the Sant'Agata loaves, votive breads shaped like breasts using local Solina wheat flour. After the blessing, the loaves and water were immersed in the miraculous spring next to the saint's small church, following a gesture handed down for generations.
On February 5th, the liturgical day of Sant'Agata, the religious service was followed by the procession with the statue carried on shoulders exclusively by women, and the distribution of blessed bread. The event, promoted by the Centro Sociale Lacetelene with the Pro Loco and the Friars Minor Conventual, attracted faithful and visitors to the village known as the "little Assisi of Abruzzo".
