A night of rock and metal in the heart of the Matese Regional Park
There is a moment in early August when the silence of the San Gregorio Matese woods is broken by distorted guitars and cranked-up amplifiers. This is the SanRock Festival, the evening that has for several years transformed the «Villa Luisa» Municipal Park into an open-air stage for rock and metal, set in one of the greenest corners of the province of Caserta and Campania. The setting is just as important as the music: we are inside the Matese Regional Park, surrounded by beech forests, pastures, and mountain air, just a short distance from Lake Matese and the trails leading to the peaks of the Alto Casertano.
The festival was born in September 2022 from an idea by a group of local youths, music lovers determined to give their village an event beyond the usual summer fair. Since then, the festival has grown with every edition: the stages of the first three years have hosted eighteen bands, hailing not only from Campania but also from Lazio, Molise, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Apulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige. This speaks volumes about how a small local initiative in the Sannio Alifano has become a benchmark for the Italian independent rock scene.
Today, SanRock is the only event in the area entirely dedicated to rock, free from mainstream «town square» music trends—a clear choice, proudly defended by the organizers, which has built a loyal and growing audience over time.
The festival's philosophy is clear: to provide a platform for emerging groups and original music, rather than just cover bands. Each edition features young acts performing their own tracks, followed by a headline guest capable of getting the whole park singing along. The selection and promotion process is supported by Wanikiya Record/Promotion, a firm active in rock and metal record promotion, which has helped the festival gain recognition far beyond regional borders. Throughout the year, the staff travels to rock and metal events across the peninsula with their own information booth, handling flyering, interviews, and band networking. It is an organizational machine that truly never stops.
Those arriving in San Gregorio Matese on the night of the festival will find an organization that has considered the evening as a whole:
The atmosphere is that classic Italian village festival vibe transplanted into the world of rock: families, teenagers, bikers, passing travelers, and enthusiasts who have traveled from other regions all end up sharing the same lawn under the stage.
One of SanRock's hallmarks is its completely free entry. It is a fundamental choice: to make live music accessible to everyone and offer the village a chance to gather. The event relies on the support of the Municipality of San Gregorio Matese, the Pro Loco Le Mura, the Civil Protection, and local businesses, as well as private sponsors and partners.
With only a few hundred permanent residents, San Gregorio Matese is a mountain municipality in the Alto Casertano that fills with vacationers and hikers during the summer. The village is known for the Matese landscape, sheep farming, and dairy products, and it experiences the summer season as the central moment of its community life. The SanRock Festival has become the most distinctive and youthful appointment in this calendar: an evening that combines the promotion of the territory with a passion for music that, up here, sounds truly different.
The SanRock Festival 2026 will be held on Saturday, August 8th, at the «Villa Luisa» Municipal Park in San Gregorio Matese, in the Alto Casertano area. The organizers present it as the most important edition ever: after three years of steady growth, the festival enters 2026 with a more solid structure, new partners, and a promotional reach that has long since crossed the borders of Campania.
The most significant leap concerns the evening's closing act, entrusted for the first time to a historic name on the Italian tribute circuit. The underlying approach remains unchanged: priority space for emerging bands and original music, free entry for everyone, food stalls with local products, and special attention to audience hospitality. The edition is accompanied by interviews and video content telling the story of the festival, curated in collaboration with the Wanikiya Record/Promotion press office.
The evening takes place outdoors, at altitude, within the Matese Regional Park: a context that has become part of the festival's identity over the years, with the natural acoustics of the mountain basin and the audience gathering on the lawn of the municipal park.
