The neighborhood feast of the parish community on Via Sandro Pertini in Melito di Napoli
In the municipality of Melito di Napoli, on the outskirts of the regional capital and in the heart of the northern area of the province of Naples, the San Vincenzo Romano Parish Festival has become one of the most anticipated events of early summer. It takes place on Via Sandro Pertini, within the parish grounds, transforming a residential neighborhood for one evening into a large festive square where faith, home-cooked food, and popular entertainment mingle.
The formula follows the classic tradition of Campanian parish festivals: it begins with Holy Mass, celebrated as the heat of the day fades, and continues immediately after with the opening of the food stalls. There is no break between the liturgical moment and the social gathering, which is the defining characteristic of the event: the community that prays together is the same one that sits at the tables, serves at the counters, and dances in the street. The entire event is made possible by the volunteering of parishioners and the support of local sponsors and businesses.
The menu is a small compendium of popular cuisine, without gourmet pretensions but with the authentic taste of homemade preparations. The stars of the tasting are pasta all'amatriciana and montanareโthe famous Neapolitan fried pizzas topped with tomato, basil, and cheese, which are a true symbol of traditional street food in the northern area of Naples. A festive queue forms around the stalls, which is an integral part of the experience of any neighborhood festival.
The evening portion of the festival is dedicated to entertainment: live music and dance, moments of collective dancing in the street, and a comedy show that brings laughter to an intergenerational audience. The finale is entrusted, as per tradition, to the lottery drawing, the most anticipated moment of the evening, which raises funds to support parish activities.
The festival is not an isolated event: June is a particularly intense month for the San Vincenzo Romano community. Alongside the gastronomic feast, the parish calendar offers solemn celebrations, theatrical performances by catechism students dedicated to local memory and the history of Melito, and vernacular plays at the nearby theater. It is a program designed to involve children, young people, families, and the elderly, and to strengthen the sense of belonging to a territory often described only through its difficulties.
The parish is dedicated to San Vincenzo Romano, remembered as the first canonized Italian priest, a figure close to the people and the daily lives of families. It is a patronage that reflects well on the spirit of the festival: nothing celebratory or distant, but a simple, street-level feast where the religious and social dimensions go hand in hand.
The San Vincenzo Romano Parish Festival returned on Saturday, June 13, 2026, on Via Sandro Pertini, in Melito di Napoli. At 7:00 PM, Holy Mass opened the evening, immediately followed by the opening of the food stalls featuring pasta all'amatriciana and montanare, the signature dishes of popular cuisine in the northern area of Naples.
The festival then continued with music, dancing, and a comedy show, concluding with the highly anticipated lottery drawing. The organization was handled by the parish community with the contribution of local volunteers and sponsors.
The festival was part of a particularly busy June for the parish: on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the 11:00 AM Solemn Mass was followed by a theatrical performance by the catechism students titled "Melito yesterday and today," dedicated to games of the past and local memory; on June 27 and 28, 2026, at the Teatro Regina Mundi (Padre della Redenzione), the comedy "Sott sotto, aumm aumm" by the "E' Parrucchian" company was performed.
The festival is held in the grounds of the San Vincenzo Romano Parish, on Via Sandro Pertini in Melito di Napoli (Postal Code 80017), in the province of Naples.
By car, Melito di Napoli is served by the Circumvallazione Esterna di Napoli and the road networks connecting the northern area to the capital and Aversa. By public transport, the area is connected by the EAV Piscinola-Aversa metro line, which serves the municipalities of the northern area, and by numerous bus lines from Naples and Aversa.
Admission to the festival is free. Tastings are available at the stalls set up by volunteers; prices have not been publicly announced by the organizers.
