The longest-running blues festival in the Marche region, set in the alleys of the Castello al Monte
The San Severino Blues Marche Festival is one of the historic musical events in the Marche region and the longest-running blues festival in the region. Founded in 1991, it will reach its thirty-fifth edition in 2026: few Italian festivals of this genre can boast such continuity. The artistic direction has been entrusted for many years to Mauro Binci, who has managed to build a program capable of alternating major international names with emerging talents.
The heart of the festival is the Piazzale degli Smeducci, in the fortified village of Castello al Monte, the oldest and most panoramic part of San Severino Marche, in the province of Macerata. The medieval walls, the stone alleys, and the intimate atmosphere of the square create a setting that has charmed musicians and audiences alike: playing here, under the summer sky of the Marche hinterland, is a different experience from the big stages of the metropolises.
The artistic offering ranges from early electric blues to soul, from Louisiana swamp rock to fusions with jazz and singer-songwriter music. Over the years, the festival has hosted artists from the United States and Europe, complementing the main ticketed evenings with a series of free itinerant concerts in the local villages, thus spreading the music beyond the historic center's boundaries.
Organized by the Pro Loco of San Severino Marche together with the Municipality, the San Severino Blues is part of the city's summer program "Summer Time," which enlivens the squares of San Severino with culture, sports, shows, and gastronomy from June to September. For lovers of black music and for those seeking an event with strong roots in the Marche region, it is an unmissable summer appointment.
The XXXV edition of the San Severino Blues Marche Festival takes place from July 16 to 19, 2026, at Piazzale degli Smeducci, in the heart of Castello al Monte in San Severino Marche. The festival, part of the city's "Summer Time 2026" summer program, confirms its proven formula alternating main ticketed concerts in the medieval village with spread-out evenings throughout the territory.
Program for the 35th edition (under update, data confirmed by the organization):
The main concerts at Piazzale degli Smeducci require a ticket. The full program, including any free itinerant evenings in the local villages and definitive times, is being published on the festival's official channels.
Return of major international blues artists at Castello al Monte: The Kings of Blues, The Honey Island Swamp Band (swamp rock from New Orleans), and Crystal Thomas, for the 35th edition of the longest-running blues festival in the Marche region.
San Severino Marche can be reached by car via the SS 361 Septempedana; the nearest motorway exit on the A14 is Civitanova Marche, from which you continue along the Val di Chienti expressway (SS 77). The main concerts take place at Castello al Monte: during concert evenings, a free shuttle bus is usually available from the city center.
The main concerts at Castello al Monte have an entrance fee (15 euros in recent editions); some evenings are free admission. Advance tickets are available at the Pro Loco of San Severino, online at vivaticket.com, and through the regional AMAT circuits. The ticket office at the Castello is open from 8 PM on concert nights.
The main edition is held in mid-July, with concerts generally starting at 9:15 PM.
