San Lorenzo Gallery Night is an evening event that brings together the leading contemporary art galleries in the San Lorenzo district of Rome, Lazio. In a single night, the neighborhood's spaces host joint openings for their new exhibitions, offering the public a continuous itinerary of vernissages, meetings with artists and curators, and new productions. It is a way to create a 'critical mass' and showcase the creative energy of one of the capital's most distinctive artistic districts.
An art district east of Termini
San Lorenzo, a historic working-class neighborhood east of Termini station, has been a reference point for Roman contemporary art for years: galleries, artist studios, independent spaces, and street art interventions coexist along the streets of Via degli Ausoni, Via dei Volsci, and Via degli Enotri. The Gallery Night highlights this concentration, inviting visitors to walk from one gallery to another in an informal and convivial atmosphere.
The featured galleries
The core of the initiative is formed by four landmark galleries in the district:
- Monitor
- Matèria
- Gilda Lavia
- Monti8
These four entities, deeply rooted in San Lorenzo, created the event spontaneously, choosing to synchronize their openings to launch the new exhibition season together.
How the event began
The first edition was held in September 2025, coinciding with the autumn restart of exhibition activities. The initiative differs from the larger Roma Gallery Weekend – Contemporanea, which involves dozens of galleries across the city in the spring: here, the San Lorenzo district itself takes center stage, with a compact pedestrian radius and an intimate atmosphere that makes the evening particularly welcoming.
A free event open to all
San Lorenzo Gallery Night evenings are free to attend: you can enter each gallery during their special opening hours, meet the artists, and discover the newly inaugurated exhibitions. It is an ideal opportunity for both art professionals and those looking to approach contemporary art in a relaxed way while strolling through the streets of this Roman neighborhood.

The San Lorenzo Gallery Night is expected back in Rome, in the San Lorenzo district, for an evening dedicated to contemporary art. At the moment, the galleries have not yet released the official dates and program for the 2026 edition: information will be updated as soon as it becomes available. The initiative, born spontaneously among the neighborhood's spaces, offers simultaneous openings with free admission, along a pedestrian route between the district's main galleries.
