The Ferragosto festival on the heights of Castelcucco, between alpine spirit and tradition
The San Bortolo Alpine Festival is held in the summer in the locality of the same name at high altitude, in the Municipality of Castelcucco, in the province of Treviso, at the foot of Monte Grappa. Its origin dates back over forty years, when a small group of Alpini climbed to the sanctuary bringing wine and provisions with them: from that simple gesture, a festival was born which over time has grown to involve families, children, and young people from the community.
The heart of the festival is the Ferragosto weekend, marked by moments that combine alpine tradition with religious dimension: on the morning of August 15th, the flag-raising ceremony takes place, followed by Holy Mass and the traditional blessing of agricultural vehicles. The cuisine is the genuine mountain cuisine of the Veneto region, with specialties such as musso (donkey meat) and spiedo (spit-roast), served by volunteers under the marquee.
The festival is part of a calendar of summer events that liven up the San Bortolo locality for several consecutive weekends in August — including the Alpini Festival, the AVIS Festival, and the Hunter's Festival — thanks to the commitment of over fifty volunteers. An example of the vitality of the foothill communities of the Treviso area, where the spirit of association continues to pass down rituals and flavors from generation to generation.
The San Bortolo Alpine Festival is an annual event held on the Ferragosto weekend at high altitude in Castelcucco. For 2026, the precise dates have not yet been announced, but the festival is recurring. Based on past editions, the traditional moments are expected — the flag-raising ceremony on the morning of Ferragosto, Holy Mass, and the blessing of agricultural vehicles — alongside the food stand with Veneto mountain cuisine ('musso' and spit-roast) and evenings of celebration animated by volunteers.
Program coming soon: the detailed schedule and dates for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival. The usual structure includes:
