The great medieval historical re-enactment of Taggia
San Benedetto Taggia is the grand historical event that each spring transforms the historic center of Taggia, in the province of Imperia, into a medieval stage. Dedicated to San Benedetto Revelli, the city's patron saint, the re-enactment commemorates the vow made by the people of Taggia to the saint in memory of the tragic events of 1625.
The village comes alive with medieval markets offering local products and crafts, period encampments, performances by falconers, jugglers, musicians, and flag-wavers, as well as engaging fire shows. The city's districts participate with theatrical performances, creating a grand fresco of medieval life that unfolds over the various days.
The climax is the grand historical procession, which parades through the streets of the center with costumed participants – nobles, commoners, ladies, and knights – accompanied by falconers and artists. With over forty years of history, San Benedetto is one of the most important and well-attended re-enactments in western Liguria, attracting visitors from all over the region and the nearby French Riviera.
The 43rd edition of the historical event 'San Benedetto Revelli' was held from March 6 to 8, 2026, in the historic center of Taggia, commemorating the city's vow from 1625 to its patron saint.
The program spanned three days of living history, featuring period markets, encampments, falconry displays by the falconers of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, jugglers, musicians, and flag-wavers, culminating in the grand historical procession on Sunday.
