The patronal feast of Coriano, between faith, tradition, and sport in Piazza Don Minzoni
The Saint Sebastian Festival is one of the most cherished events of the year in Coriano, a town in the hinterland of the Rimini province, in Emilia-Romagna. Saint Sebastian is the patron of the Municipality of Coriano and the Local Police, and his feast day, set for January 20th, is celebrated every year with a series of events that intertwine the religious, civil, and sporting dimensions, involving the entire community.
The heart of the festival is the solemn Holy Mass celebrated on the afternoon of January 20th at the Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta, in the presence of local civil and military authorities. At the end of the service, a procession forms, heading to Piazza Don Minzoni, where a laurel wreath is laid at the foot of the statue of Saint Sebastian, as a sign of homage to the patron saint. The day concludes in a convivial atmosphere, with the offering of traditional hot mulled wine to all attendees.
For decades, devotion has been accompanied by a well-established sporting tradition: the Saint Sebastian Trophy, a historic running race organized by the Gruppo Podistico Cerasolo with the patronage of the Municipality. The race, now in its thirty-fifth edition, starts from Piazza Don Minzoni and offers three scenic routes of approximately 7, 5, and 2.8 kilometers, designed to accommodate competitive athletes, walkers, and families. Each year, the event attracts over 400 participants, who run along the roads and hills surrounding the town center.
The Saint Sebastian Festival tells the story of a community that keeps its connection to its roots alive. The encounter between the sacred rite, the institutional memory linked to the Local Police, and the sporting and popular participation makes this occasion a highly anticipated event in the winter calendar of Coriano and the entire Valconca region, in the Rimini territory.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Sebastian Festival in Coriano was spread over two main days, featuring sporting tradition and religious and civil celebrations.
