Edition 2025 — Saint Sebastian

In 2025, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto celebrated its patron saint, Saint Sebastian, on January 20th with the usual program of faith and tradition. Solemn masses in the Basilica, the statue procession through the city center with brass bands, and the unmissable stalls selling giaurrina brought the city to life, confirming an appointment deeply rooted in the local community.

The 2025 edition of the Saint Sebastian Festival renewed in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (Messina) the ritual that every January 20th unites religious devotion and popular tradition.

The celebrations took place in the Minor Basilica of Saint Sebastian, with morning masses, the solemn Eucharistic celebration, and, in the afternoon, the procession of the statue of the Saint through the main city streets, accompanied by local brass bands.

As per tradition, from the eve of the feast, the Basilica square and the central Via Roma were filled with stalls, featuring the sale of giaurrina, the caramelized honey candy that characterizes the Barcellona festivities.
