About Saint Peter on Antola

At the end of June, Mount Antola, at 1597 meters, hosts the evocative Saint Peter's Festival. Dinner at the refuge, a night torchlight procession to the summit cross, guided sunrise hikes, and a solemn open-air mass make this event a rare blend of nature, tradition, and faith on the iconic flowering mountain of the Genoa hinterland.

The festival of the flowering mountain

Mount Antola, at 1597 meters, is one of the most beloved peaks in the Ligurian Apennines, famous for its spring blooms. In the municipality of Propata, within the Metropolitan City of Genoa, the Saint Peter's Festival takes place every year at the end of June, organized in collaboration between the Antola Regional Natural Park, the Antola Park Refuge, the Parish, and the Municipality.

Between torchlight procession and sunrise

The festival combines hiking and spirituality: in the evening, dinner at the refuge with traditional music precedes the evocative torchlight procession from the chapel to the illuminated summit cross. At dawn, the guided hike "Facciamo l'Alba" (Let's Do the Sunrise) takes participants to the top to await the sunrise, followed by other guided walks ascending from various slopes.

The high-altitude mass

The climax is the solemn mass celebrated outdoors, with the participation of alpine groups, followed by refreshments with music and dancing. An authentic festival celebrating nature, tradition, faith, and conviviality, in one of the symbolic places of the Antola Park. The summit chapel is the destination of a small mountain pilgrimage.
