The patronal feast of Albano Laziale, blending faith, tradition, and community
The Saint Pancras Patronal Feast is the most anticipated event of the year for Albano Laziale, a town in the Castelli Romani area within the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region. Saint Pancras, a young martyr venerated since the early centuries of Christianity, is the patron saint not only of the city but of the entire suburbicarian diocese of Albano, and his Cathedral in the historic center preserves his cult. The festival, which revolves around May 12th, has for centuries intertwined religious and civic dimensions, involving the entire local community.
The celebrations begin with the preparatory triduum, three days of evening Holy Masses in the Cathedral of Saint Pancras that guide the faithful toward the feast day. The highlight is the solemn Eucharistic Celebration on May 12th, presided over by a high-ranking prelate, followed by the grand procession that winds through the streets of the historic center. The parade, featuring the saint's statue, is accompanied by the "Cittร di Albano โ Cesare Durante" municipal band and travels through Piazza Duomo, Piazza Pia, and the city's main streets in a choral embrace of devotion.
Alongside the religious celebrations, civic festivities bring the center of Albano to life. Piazza Pia hosts a craft and food fair, with stalls offering local products, gastronomic specialties, and traditional crafts that attract visitors from across the Castelli Romani. There are also concerts in the Cathedral featuring prestigious ensembles, musical performances in the squares, and the traditional fireworks display that illuminates the sky over Albano at the close of the festivities.
The Saint Pancras Feast is the perfect opportunity to discover Albano Laziale and the Castelli Romani, a territory rich in history, wine, and popular traditions just a few kilometers from Rome.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Pancras Patronal Feast spanned four days, from May 9th to 12th, featuring both religious celebrations and civic festivities in the historic center of Albano Laziale.
Albano Laziale is served by the Rome-Albano railway line (Albano Laziale station, regional trains from Rome Termini and Rome Tuscolana stations). By car, it can be reached via the Via Appia Nuova (SS7) or from the Grande Raccordo Anulare, taking the exit toward Castelli Romani.
On May 12th, for the evening procession, traffic diversions and closures are expected in the historic center: it is recommended to park in the outer areas and reach the center on foot. Religious celebrations are held in the Cathedral of Saint Pancras, while the fair and performances take place in Piazza Pia and surrounding streets. Admission to the events is free.
