Saint Pancras, between Como and Ceresio

In the evocative setting of Valle Intelvi, suspended between Lake Como and Lake Ceresio, the hamlet of Ramponio Verna — now part of the Municipality of Alta Valle Intelvi in the province of Como — celebrates the Festival of Saint Pancras every year on May 12th. The sanctuary dedicated to the saint is the focal point of a recurring event that unites the local community.

The Procession and Mass

The religious moment is the heart of the festival: the statue of Saint Pancras is carried in procession from the church of San Benedetto to the sanctuary, where Solemn Mass is celebrated. After the celebrations, the festival becomes convivial: at noon, the kitchen opens with traditional Intelvi dishes, from polenta uncia to braised meat, as well as mountain cheeses and cured meats. To finish the meal, the unmissable Torta di San Pancrazio, a typical cake linked to the occasion.
