Saint Michael the Archangel Patronal Feast

2025 Edition — 400 years since the apparition

The 2025 edition of the Saint Michael the Archangel Feast in Caltanissetta held extraordinary significance: it marked the 400th anniversary of the apparition of the Archangel to Friar Giarratana (1625), an event that led the city to elect Saint Michael as its patron following its liberation from the plague.

The day of September 29th culminated in the solemn pontifical mass presided over by Bishop Mario Russotto in the Cathedral, in the presence of civil and military authorities, and the evening procession of the statue through the streets of the center, carried on the shoulders of devotees, many of whom walked barefoot. Already on May 8th, the Feast of the Apparition, an extraordinary processional route had inaugurated the jubilee year dedicated to the patron saint. Fireworks closed a day of great popular participation.
