Saint Maurus Festival in Copreno

Copreno and its Patron Saint

The Saint Maurus Festival is the patronal feast of the hamlet of Copreno, in the Municipality of Lentate sul Seveso (Province of Monza and Brianza). It is celebrated around January 15th, the day of the dies natalis of Saint Maurus Abbot, traditionally on the Sunday closest to the date.

A Legend of Oxen and Signs

The devotion of Copreno for Saint Maurus dates back to an ancient legend: a statue of the saint, destined for a nearby town, is said to have arrived in Copreno on a cart pulled by oxen that spontaneously stopped in the village, interpreted as a divine sign. Since then, the community has venerated the saint, also attracting faithful from neighbouring localities.

Between Stalls, Exhibitions, and Rites

The festival enlivens the village streets - between Piazza Fiume, Via Montello, Via Trieste, and Via Montenero - with stalls of artisanal products, food, and roasted chestnuts. Since 1997, the association Copreno in Movimento has organised thematic exhibitions in the church of Sant'Alessandro and the parish church, which address a different subject each year. The religious heart of the festival is the kissing of the relic, the "sign of Saint Maurus", with the blessing of the sick and clothing. For 2026, the Pastoral Community of Lentate has confirmed the event with the "Saint Maurus Lottery".
