Saint Lucy Festival

The 2025 Saint Lucy Festival in Polizzi Generosa took place according to the usual tradition in the Madonie village in the province of Palermo. On the evening of the eve, December 12th, families prepared the cuccìa, the soup of wheat, chickpeas, and local beans linked to the ancient legend of the famine that ended on the saint's day.

On December 13th, the community gathered in the Church of the SS. Crocifisso for the solemn mass, followed by the distribution of ucchiuzzi di Santa Lucia and the blessing of the eyes, in honor of the patron saint of sight. At sunset, the statue of the saint was carried in procession by the confreres wrapped in their characteristic green cloaks, accompanied by the faithful along the streets of the historic center.
