Edition 2025 — Saint Gregory the Great

In 2025, Vizzini celebrated its patron saint, Saint Gregory the Great, with traditional festivities culminating in the solemnity on September 3rd. On the eve, Saturday, September 2nd, civil authorities and local associations gathered in Piazza Umberto for the pilgrimage to the Mother Church, featuring the offering of oil for the votive lamp. On Sunday, following the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the Bishop of Caltagirone, the procession of the statue moved through the town center with a brass band and fireworks.

Saint Gregory the Great Festival 2025

The 2025 edition of the festivities in honor of Saint Gregory the Great, patron of Vizzini (CT), took place at the end of summer, culminating in the solemnity on Sunday, September 3rd. In the preceding days, a Eucharistic triduum was held with the exposition of the statue and the Saint's relic.

On Saturday, September 2nd, at 6:00 PM, the gathering in Piazza Umberto marked the start of the pilgrimage to the Mother Church with civil authorities and local associations: the mayor offered the oil that fuels the votive lamp, while the associations brought gifts for charity.

On Sunday, September 3rd, the Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Monsignor Calogero Peri, Bishop of Caltagirone. Following this, the solemn procession of the statue took place along the traditional route (Largo Matrice, S. Lucia, SS. Annunziata, Piazza De Gasperi, via Lombarda, Piazza Umberto, via Roma, via dei Galli, via Matteo Agosta, viale Regina Margherita, Piazza Marconi), accompanied by firework displays at Largo Matrice and the brass band, until the return to the Mother Church with the Act of Entrustment of the city to the Patron.
