The patronal feast of Granze with one of the very rare flower carpet displays in Northern Italy
Some patronal feasts are like many others, and then there is the Festival of Saint Christina in Granze, in the Bassa Padovana region. Here, in a municipality of a few thousand inhabitants in the province of Padua, the community has learned and preserved over time the refined technique of the 'infiorata': the flower carpets that cover the streets of the center are a rarity for the Veneto region and for all of Northern Italy, where this tradition is much less widespread than in the Center-South.
The most anticipated moment is the Sunday dedicated to Saint Christina. After the solemn Mass, the faithful process, accompanied by the band, along the evocative Via Ca' Conti, covered for the occasion with colorful floral carpets. Along the route, in the gardens of the village houses, sacred performances are staged: moments from the life of Saint Christina are re-enacted and brought into dialogue with contemporary themes, in a journey that combines devotion, art, and popular participation.
The festival is born from the union of many local realities — the parish, the Pro Loco, the senior center with Auser, and the Municipality of Granze — and is organized across three distinct areas: a central stage in front of the church, an area dedicated to young people with DJ sets, and a space with a dance floor designed for the elderly. There is also an open-air painting competition, with invited artists interpreting themes related to the territory.
Food stalls, music, religious moments, and the unmissable flower carpet display: the Festival of Saint Christina is a portrait of a community telling its story through flowers. An event to discover for those who want to experience an authentic Veneto, far from the most beaten tourist routes.
Confirming a consolidated tradition, the Festival of Saint Christina enlivens Granze in July 2026, unfolding as usual over two weekends. The central moment remains the Sunday dedicated to the saint, with the solemn Mass, the procession accompanied by the band along Via Ca' Conti, and the flower carpet display in the communal gardens and in front of the houses, where the sacred performances inspired by Saint Christina's life come to life.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival. Based on the usual structure, the event includes:
