Saint Blaise, Patron Saint of Teana

Teana, a village perched in the Pollino National Park in the Province of Potenza, venerates Saint Blaise as its patron saint. Devotion to the saint is expressed both on the liturgical feast day of February 3rd and, especially, during the summer patronal festival, when the village comes alive to welcome those who return for the occasion.

The August Patronal Festival

In the heart of summer, in August, Teana celebrates its patron saint with the usual blend of the sacred and the secular typical of Lucanian festivals: solemn mass, a procession of the statue of Saint Blaise through the village streets, accompanied by the brass band, illuminations, and civil celebrations with music and evening entertainment.

A Community Reunited

As in many small towns in the Lucanian hinterland, the patronal festival is the time when Teana comes together around its identity: emigrants return to the village, families reunite, and traditions are passed down. The Pollino setting, with its mountainous landscapes, makes the event even more evocative.
