In August, Castione della Presolana, in the province of Bergamo, celebrates its patron saint with the Festa di Sant'Alessandro. The liturgical feast of Saint Alexander falls on August 26th, and around this date, the town on the Presolana plateau, in the upper Val Seriana, experiences three days of festivities that intertwine religious tradition and community moments.
Between faith and village festival
The program alternates between the sacred and the convivial. On one hand, the solemn mass and the procession with the saint's statue, accompanied by a choir concert in the parish church; on the other, evenings at the Sports Field, with catering, live music, stalls, and the tombola that concludes the festival. It's the classic mountain patronal festival, where everyone gathers, from the elderly to children, for a few days of socializing before the end of summer.
The Presolana plateau
The festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover the Presolana plateau, one of the most beloved summer destinations in the Bergamo area, dominated by the unmistakable mass of the Queen of the Orobie Alps. Castione della Presolana is a historic holiday resort, and in August, it is at its liveliest with excursions, mountain air, and events like this.

The Festa di Sant'Alessandro is designed for the local community but gladly welcomes holidaymakers: it is the best way to experience the authenticity of a Lombard mountain village in the height of the summer season.
St. Alexander's Festival — edition 2026
In 2026 too, Castione della Presolana will celebrate its patron saint with the Festa di Sant'Alessandro, a traditional late August event on the Presolana plateau. The festival, organized by the Pastoral Unit of Presolana, will unfold over three days around the liturgical feast of August 26th, as per tradition.
The usual program includes evenings at the Sports Field with catering, live music, and stalls, the solemn mass with procession, a choir concert in the parish church, and the final tombola. Precise dates and detailed program will be confirmed by the Presolana Infopoint and parish channels in the weeks preceding the festival.

The usual structure of the Festa di Sant'Alessandro includes three days:
- First day — opening of the bar and catering service in the evening, with a dancing night
- Second day — stalls in the afternoon, bar and catering, live concert in the evening
- Third day — solemn mass and procession in the afternoon, dinner, choir concert in the parish church, entertainment, and final tombola
