Edition 2025 — Cuccia — Castelmezzano
In 2025, Castelmezzano celebrated the Sagra della Cuccia on December 13th, Saint Lucia's day: the dish of grains and legumes cooked in the large pot in front of the Mother Church, blessed, and distributed to the faithful as a sign of good luck.
The 2025 edition renewed the tradition passed down for over a century in Castelmezzano. On Saint Lucia's day, in front of the Mother Church of Santa Maria dell'Olmo, the cuccia made of grains, broad beans, chickpeas, and vetch was cooked in the large pot, blessed, and distributed free of charge to the faithful, in a rite that unites popular devotion and community sharing in the heart of the Lucanian Dolomites winter.
