The chestnut queen of the Brescian autumn, between Nave, Caino and Bovezzo
The Sagra del Marrone della Valle del Garza is one of the most cherished autumn events in the hinterland of Brescia. It is not held in a single location: it is a travelling event that, on the Sundays of October, stops in the three municipalities of the valley โ Nave, Caino, and Bovezzo โ celebrating the marrone, the prized chestnut that has shaped the economy and cuisine of this area in the Province of Brescia for generations.
Caino is one of the central stops of the sagra: during its weekend, the village comes alive with food stalls, roasted chestnuts, local products, and festive moments that attract visitors from all over the valley and the city. It's an opportunity to discover a small municipality in the Valle Trompia in its most convivial guise, with the aroma of roasted chestnuts as the common thread.
The chestnut from the Valle del Garza is the true star: here, roasted chestnuts become an authentic symbol of the Brescian autumn. The sagra promotes a local supply chain and a landscape of chestnut groves that has characterized the valley slopes for centuries, intertwining territory promotion, environmental protection, and rural tradition.
The 2026 edition re-proposes the travelling calendar that has made the sagra famous: several Sundays in October, each hosted in turn by one of the three municipalities of the Valle del Garza. Caino confirms its role as a main stop, with food stalls, roasted chestnuts, and events related to the chestnut. The day-by-day program is announced by the municipalities and Visit Brescia in the weeks preceding the start.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including dates for individual weekends, times, and excursion meeting points, will be published by the municipalities of Nave, Caino, and Bovezzo, and by Visit Brescia closer to the event. The usual structure includes: opening with a walk through the chestnut groves, gastronomic weekends in the three towns, and a grand finale in Nave at the Pieve della Mitria.
On the Sundays of October 2026 (dates to be confirmed). The event is spread over several weekends between Nave, Caino, and Bovezzo, with the Caino stop on one of the central weekends.
Caino is reachable by car from the lower Valle Trompia; about 20 minutes from Brescia. It's also a convenient starting point for walks in the valley's chestnut groves.
Comfortable clothing for excursions and shoes suitable for the trails. Check the updated program on the municipalities' websites and Visit Brescia for times and meeting points.
