Saints Nazarius and Celsus, patrons of Formigara

The Festival of Saints Nazarius and Celsus is the patronal festival of the Municipality of Formigara, a small village of about 1,100 inhabitants in the province of Cremona. The two martyrs, Nazarius and Celsus, are the patrons of the town and give their name to the parish church, the hub of religious and community life. Although liturgically remembered on July 28th, the saints are celebrated with the patronal festival on the fourth Sunday of September.

The Parish Church

The Church of Saints Nazarius and Celsus, on Via Chiesa, is the heart of the celebrations. The solemn mass of the festival takes place here, the central moment around which the entire Formigara community gathers. Next to the parish church, the town also preserves the subsidiary church of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, testifying to the rich devotional tradition of the Cremona area.

September Patronal Festival

The September patronal festival is the main event for Formigara's religious and community identity. In addition to liturgical celebrations, the recurrence is an occasion for gathering and socialising for the town's inhabitants, following the tradition of patronal festivals in the Po Valley, where the dimension of faith naturally intertwines with the convivial one.
