Sacred Representation of the Passion of Christ

Edition XXXVIII — April 16, 2025

The thirty-eighth edition of the Sacred Representation of the Passion of Christ took place on Holy Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 8:30 PM, in the ancient village of Gessopalena. The chosen title, "Father, why have you forsaken me?", guided a narrative that wove together tradition and a contemporary reading of the Gospel story, under the artistic direction of Antonio Persiani.

Over two hundred costumed participants accompanied the audience along an itinerant path that, starting from Piazza Roma, wound through the alleys and small squares of the old settlement carved into gypsum, reaching panoramic points overlooking the Majella and the Sangro Valley. The edition ideally celebrated sixty years of a tradition born in 1965 and dear to the entire community of the Municipality of Gessopalena, in the province of Chieti.
