About Roma Meets India

Roma Meets India is a cultural project conceived by Kama Productions to foster a dialogue between the Italian capital and India through Hindustani classical music, traditional dance, cinema, workshops, and meetings. Selected by the Roma Capitale 'Roma Creativa 365' public call, the program enlivens the IX and II Municipalities with events dedicated to one of the world's oldest and most fascinating cultures, acting as a bridge between refined Indian traditions and contemporary research.

A cultural bridge between Rome and India

Roma Meets India is an Indian art and culture project conceived and produced by Kama Productions, a Rome-based production company active in cinema and live performance, and the team behind SummerMela, Italy's premier Indian culture festival. The initiative was born to bring the capital's public closer to one of the planet's oldest and richest civilizations, enhancing the dialogue between the millennial traditions of the Indian subcontinent and contemporary artistic languages.

Born with Roma Creativa 365

The project was selected as part of the Roma Creativa 365 โ€“ Culture all year round public call, promoted by Roma Capitale in collaboration with Zรจtema Progetto Cultura to support and spread cultural programming throughout the city. Roma Meets India falls under Section 1, dedicated to multi-year projects, and is rooted specifically in the IX and II Municipalities of Rome, bringing artistic offerings beyond the historic center and into local neighborhoods.

The artistic program

True to the mission of Kama Productions, Roma Meets India weaves together multiple disciplines to tell the story of India in all its nuances. The project develops around several main pillars:

  • Music: concerts of Hindustani classical music and traditional sounds, featuring instruments such as the sitar, tabla, and bansuri;
  • Dance: performances inspired by the vast heritage of Indian classical dance;
  • Cinema: screenings and documentaries exploring the great Asian nation and its transformations;
  • Workshops and meetings: in-depth sessions, workshops, and exchange opportunities open to the public and local communities.

Kama Productions and Indian culture in Rome

Kama Productions is based in Rome's San Lorenzo district and has dedicated years to promoting world arts and cultures, with a special focus on India. The company co-produces the long-running SummerMela festival, and with Roma Meets India, it renews this commitment by integrating it into the capital's annual cultural calendar. The goal is to offer citizens and visitors an authentic experience that reveals India's spirituality, music, dance, and contemporary creativity.

An event for Rome and the Lazio region

With Roma Meets India, the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region enrich their cultural offerings with an international-scale project that celebrates the encounter between peoples and traditions. Dates and the detailed program are communicated by the organizers through the official Kama Productions channels: we recommend checking them for locations, times, and participation details.
