Roma Film Corto

A festival dedicated to short films in the heart of Rome

Roma Film Corto is one of the capital's longest-running events dedicated to short-form cinema and independent film. Organized by the SB Vision Association, the festival takes place in the city of Rome, in the Lazio region, and in 2026 it celebrates its 18th edition. The event was born with a precise mission: to discover and encourage talent, with a focus on experimentation and the cross-pollination of languages, in what the organizers define as an authentic agora for artistic training and expression.

Competitive sections

The competition is divided into seven sections that embrace every soul of contemporary short filmmaking:

• International Works — the best shorts from the global scene;
• Perspective Italy — films by Italian directors or produced in Italy;
• Mediterranean Area — works by authors and producers from the Mediterranean;
• Doc and Docufilm — documentaries and non-fiction cinema;
• Animated Shorts — animation created using any technique;
• Business, Cooperatives, and Territory — stories of work and local development;
• Emerging Talents — young authors under 30 and works from schools and universities.

The awards: from the Colosseo d'Oro to the Ettore Scola Award

The most coveted recognition is the Colosseo d'Oro for Best Short Film, awarded to an unreleased work that stands out for its direction, writing, and technical innovation. The Ettore Scola Award, named after the great master of Italian cinema, goes to the best short film produced in Italy or directed by an Italian filmmaker. The awards are completed by the Colosseo d'Argento for best screenplay, best actress, and best actor, as well as special mentions for cinematography, soundtrack, and editing, along with specific awards for each section.

An edition looking to the future

Throughout its history, Roma Film Corto has collected thousands of works from over one hundred countries, with screenings and award ceremonies hosted in iconic venues of Roman cinematic culture, such as the Casa del Cinema. The festival is not just a competition, but a meeting place for established authors and new talent, with particular attention to the quality of writing and freedom of expression. International works are presented with Italian subtitles, while productions made entirely with artificial intelligence are excluded from the competition to protect the centrality of the author.
