The Roma Festival Band is a festival dedicated to the world of wind bands and wind orchestras, conceived and promoted by the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome, the city's oldest musical institution. The event takes place in the prestigious Sala Accademica at the historic Via dei Greci site, just a short walk from the Spanish Steps. For a few weekends in autumn, the conservatory transforms into a meeting point for bands, wind orchestras, and choirs from all over Italy.
Curated by Maestro Giuseppe Pocorobba, artistic director and conductor of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory Wind Orchestra, the festival aims to give visibility and concert dignity to a musical heritage often associated with public squares and local festivals. The stage hosts a rotation of city bands, military bands, conservatory ensembles, and young instrumentalists, in a program that spans from the symphonic wind repertoire to operatic transcriptions, and from traditional pieces to new contemporary compositions.
Each edition brings together diverse groups, offering the public a vivid cross-section of Italian band culture. Recent editions have featured ensembles such as the Banda Musicale Cittร di Rieti, the Banda Sinfonica del Conservatorio Briccialdi di Terni, the Banda Musicale dell'Aeronautica Militare, the Banda Musicale della Polizia Locale di Roma Capitale, and choirs like Vox Auroe, alongside the Santa Cecilia Conservatory Wind Orchestra. It is a journey that bridges academic rigor with the passion of local bands.
Hosted in one of the most evocative concert halls in Rome, in the Lazio region, the Roma Festival Band is an event designed for enthusiasts, families, and curious visitors alike. Admission is generally free, in keeping with the educational and outreach mission of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, allowing audiences to discover a musical genre deeply rooted in Italian tradition that still has the power to surprise.
For the 2026 edition of the Roma Festival Band, the Santa Cecilia Conservatory has published a call for external applications, inviting bands and wind orchestras to propose their participation. The detailed calendar and line-up have not yet been finalized. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to take place in autumn, featuring free concerts in the Sala Accademica under the artistic direction of Maestro Giuseppe Pocorobba.
The Santa Cecilia Conservatory is located at Via dei Greci 18, in the Campo Marzio district, a short distance from the Spanish Steps. By metro: Line A, Spagna or Flaminio station. Numerous bus lines serve the Via del Corso and Piazza del Popolo area.
