Rally di Pico (Rally del Lazio - Cassino)

A historic rally in the heart of Ciociaria

The Rally di Pico is one of the most deep-rooted motorsport events in the Lazio region. Born in the small town of Pico, in the province of Frosinone, at the foot of the Aurunci Mountains, it has built its reputation on narrow, technical, and spectacular roads that have attracted drivers and fans from all over Italy for decades. The race has grown alongside the territory, becoming a defining event for the Ciociaria area and the entire Lazio Region.

From Rally di Pico to Rally del Lazio - Cassino

Since 2021, the race has been merged, along with the Rally di Cassino and the Rally delle Lirenas, into the larger Rally del Lazio - Cassino, a project initiated by Max Rendina to unite the rally excellence of lower Lazio into a single major competition. The historic name has not disappeared, however: the 2025 edition was officially the 46th Rally di Pico, and the special stage bearing the town's name remains the most anticipated section of the route, often chosen as the televised power stage.

The special stages

The route crosses a range of municipalities between the provinces of Frosinone and Latina, featuring sections that have become legendary in the Italian championship:

• Pico — short, spectacular, and lightning-fast, the symbolic heart of the race
• Viticuso — one of the most beautiful in the CIAR, with an almost lunar landscape and a highly technical layout
• Terelle — the longest of the rally, over 14 kilometers of Apennine climbs and descents
• Itri — the classic Aurunci stage, presented here in an extended version
• Falvaterra — introduced in 2025, short and punchy, closing the loop

The race weekend

The event spans several days: technical inspections and shakedown, a starting ceremony in the center of Cassino, followed by two days of special stages with a final arrival in the square before a large crowd. The headquarters and service park are traditionally set up in Cassino, which transforms into the Italian rally capital for an entire weekend.

2026 Edition: CIAR Sparco and international debut

In 2026, the Rally del Lazio - Cassino is confirmed as the penultimate round of the Sparco Italian Absolute Rally Championship, during a potentially decisive phase for the title, and is also valid for the Italian Junior Rally Championship. The most significant novelty is its debut in the FIA European Rally Trophy, which will pit the race against prestigious events like the Rally Madeira in Portugal or the Rallye International du Valais. The selected weekend is September 17-20, 2026, with the final format, developed between Friday and Saturday, still being finalized.

Attending the Rally di Pico means experiencing motorsport in its most authentic form: no grandstands, just perched villages, dry-stone walls, olive groves, and thousands of spectators positioned along the hairpins. It is also an excellent opportunity to discover a corner of Lazio rarely touched by mass tourism, including the Montecassino Abbey, the villages of the Valle di Comino, and the Ciociaria cuisine, featuring fini fini pasta, lamb, and mountain cheeses.
