Procession of Maria SS. Addolorata alle Balate – Albergheria

The 2025 edition

The 2025 edition of the Maria SS. Addolorata alle Balate festival took place on Sunday, September 14, in the Albergheria district of Palermo. In the morning, a solemn Holy Mass was celebrated in the Church of San Francesco Saverio; in the afternoon, the procession of devotees began, following the vara of the Addolorata, with the wax statue of the Virgin carried on the artistic flower-adorned float through the alleys of the district.

The procession, organized by the historic Confraternity of the Addolorata, was accompanied by the notes of traditional Sicilian brass bands and concluded, as per custom, with a fireworks display. In 2025, the event once again confirmed the strong bond between the Albergheria community and its ancient Marian devotion.
