About Pop Japan

At Palazzo Gallo, in the heart of Osimo (Province of Ancona, Marche), Pop Japan is staged, the major exhibition dedicated to the pop art masters of the Land of the Rising Sun. Over forty works trace the evolution of Japanese pop art, from Yayoi Kusama to Takashi Murakami, through to the micro-pop generation and Shōjo culture. A colorful and immersive journey, curated by Giuseppe Stagnitta and produced by the MetaMorfosi Association, which brings the vibrant aesthetic of contemporary Japan to the Marche region.

Pop Japan: The Land of the Rising Sun at Palazzo Gallo

From November 21, 2025, to April 6, 2026, Palazzo Gallo in Osimo (Province of Ancona, Marche) hosts Pop Japan. The Great Pop Masters of the Land of the Rising Sun, an exhibition that brings the visual power and colors of Japanese pop art to Osimo's historic center. The exhibition features over forty unique and significant works, the result of a project curated by Giuseppe Stagnitta and produced by the MetaMorfosi Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Osimo and A.S.S.O. (Azienda Speciale Servizi Osimo).

A Journey in Five Stages

The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections that follow the evolution of Japanese pop art, from its American-influenced experiments to the most contemporary trends of so-called Superflat. Each room is dedicated to a protagonist who has contributed to defining the visual imagery of the Land of the Rising Sun.

  • Yayoi Kusama — early pop experiments and the chromatic obsessions that have made her a global icon.
  • Takashi Murakami — the neo-pop language and the Superflat theory, a bridge between high culture and mass culture.
  • Tomoko Nagao — the micro-pop style, where masterpieces of art history meet global consumer brands and icons.
  • Hiroyuki Takahashi — the poetics of Shōjo culture, balancing delicacy and adolescent imagery.
  • Hitomi Maesashi — digital painting on photography, a synthesis of technology and painterly gesture.
