International performing arts festival at Villa Nappi
The Polverigi Inteatro Fest is one of the longest-running and most prestigious live performance events in Italy. Founded in the late seventies, it has made the small municipality of Polverigi, in the province of Ancona, a key Italian hub for theatrical research and contemporary dance. For over forty years, the festival has brought artists and companies from all over the world to the Marche region, alternating between the names Inteatro Festival and, from 2025, PolverigiFest, up to the current Polverigi Inteatro Fest.
The focal point of the festival is Villa Nappi, a historic residence surrounded by a centuries-old park on Via Marconi. During the festival days, the villa, its courtyard, the Teatro della Luna, the Teatro del Parco, and the Roccolo village are transformed into a widespread stage, where the audience moves from one performance to another, immersed in the greenery and the serene atmosphere of the Marche village.
The 2026 edition, scheduled from June 4 to 14, brings together 20 companies for 40 events including theatre, dance, contemporary circus, music, and literature. The artistic direction is entrusted to Viola Graziosi, with production by the Associazione Inteatro in collaboration with Marche Teatro. The programme features numerous Italian and regional premieres and new productions that blend different languages.
In addition to the performances, the festival enlivens Polverigi with meetings, concerts, DJ sets, and family-friendly activities such as puppet theatre and circus shows. The event is one of the most anticipated cultural events of the summer in the Marche Region and an opportunity to discover a village in the Ancona hinterland, just a few kilometres from the sea and the Riviera del Conero.
The festival opens on June 4 with the Italian premiere of Ricordati by Circo El Grito at the Roccolo and continues until June 14 with a packed programme of national and regional premieres.
Among the most anticipated events: Marco Baliani with L'ombra perduta di Peter Schlemihl, Simona Bertozzi/NEXUS with Le Palestriti, the Italian premiere of MADRE-LINGUA by Giulia Trippetta and Giulia Bartolini, the performance installation Panopticon by Compagnia Zappalà Danza with Marche Teatro, and, closing the festival, the preview of Diluvio by Nicola Galli/TIR Danza followed by a DJ set. There is also space for family theatre and circus with El Bechin and Teatro Necessario Circo, and evening musical performances by Marianne Mirage and Alessandro Pellegrini.
Every day at 6:30 PM, Viola Graziosi presents Il Teatro dell'ascolto (The Theatre of Listening).
Polverigi is located in the hinterland of Ancona. By car: take the Ancona Nord exit from the A14 motorway, then follow provincial roads towards Polverigi (approx. 20 km). By train: Ancona station, then bus connections towards the hinterland. Nearest airport: Ancona-Falconara.
Individual performance tickets range from approximately €8 to €15. Advance sales are available through the Vivaticket circuit and at the ticket office of the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona (tel. 071 52525, [email protected]). A ticket office at Villa Nappi will be open during the festival (from late afternoon).
Many performances take place outdoors in the park of Villa Nappi: comfortable clothing is recommended. It is advisable to book in advance for performances with limited seating.
