The stones of Alzano in the photographs of Ezio Pievani
The exhibition 'It's not black, it's not white' brings to the former Monastery of the Visitation of Mary in Alzano Lombardo, province of Bergamo, the black and white images of Ezio Pievani, an amateur photographer and local mountaineer. His lens focuses on the country's architectural heritage and urban landscapes, highlighting the refined details of elements often perceived only fleetingly while walking through the streets: finely crafted stone portals, details, hidden geometries.
The exhibition is not just a collection of photographs. Within its walls, it also houses the results of four years of research by students from the Polytechnic University of Milan on the architectural and spiritual significance of the cloistered monastery, which closed in 2015. The visit thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover a place long inaccessible and an important page in Alzano's history.
The exhibition is promoted by the Giusi Pesenti Calvi Foundation with the Pro Loco Alzano, the local Alpini group, and the Civil Protection Volunteers of Bergamo, with graphic contributions from Pommi's Lab and guidance from the Museum of Sacred Art guides. The initiative is part of the Alzano Incanta program, the event series that enlivens Alzano's historic center. Admission is free.
On May 16 and 17, 2026, the former Monastery of the Visitation of Mary hosted the exhibition 'It's not black, it's not white', with black and white shots by Ezio Pievani dedicated to the architectural details of Alzano Lombardo and the presentation of research conducted by students from the Polytechnic University of Milan on the monastery. The initiative was part of Alzano Incanta, with the support of the Giusi Pesenti Calvi Foundation, the Pro Loco, and local associations.
Over the two days, the photographic exhibition was open to the public in the spaces of the former Monastery of the Visitation of Mary, featuring images by Ezio Pievani and panels dedicated to the research by the Polytechnic University of Milan on the monastic complex. Guided tours were provided by the Museum of Sacred Art guides. Free admission.
